So who am I? Just a regular guy who became obsessed with photography.
I lived the first 27-and-a-half years of my life in London, England before coming to the San Francisco Bay Area in December of 2000. In that strange way that moving somewhere different encourages you to take up new pursuits, what started as just a decision to buy a funky Russian Lomo compact camera became an obsession within a few months. I discovered that buying cheap '70s rangefinder cameras on eBay was addictive, so I kept doing it.
I carry my Lomo or XA4 with me everywhere, looking like some demented tourist, always searching for a good picture. I don't claim to be a master of technique, but perhaps the more I practice, the better I'll get. in the meantime, it gets me out of the house and I derive a certain amount of pleasure from it. I also do a fairly decent job of pretending I know what I'm talking about when people discuss f/stops, apertures, DX coding, and shutter speeds, and convincing people I've been taking photographs a very long time. It's all wonderfully geeky.
