02/28/02 So finally my photos arrived from York. I don't know whether it was them or my local postal service taking ages with delivery, but the whole process took 26 days rather than 7-10. Still, I guess you get what you pay for when it's $3.45 total. 02/24/02 Here is another reason why I love Lucky film. Not the most technically perfect photograph ever, nor the best composed, but I still like what this cheapo film does with flourescent light. The pros out there would call this sacrilege. Motion blur can work sometimes. In the end this was the best of a bad bunch at the Chinese New Year Parade I hadn't thought of that Steppenwolf song for years until I saw this. One day I'll start photographing stuff looking down instead of always photographing stuff looking up. Once again, Lucky comes through again with that bizarre teal-colored sky. It looks even better on the print.

John is married to Sam. Sam used to work at the same place as me, and is friends with Priscilla. John is a recent Lomo convert too and has just posted some of his SF Lomo Crawl Pictures here. Today is the Chinese New Year Parade. I'm going up to the city with Lomo in hand to see if I can capture some 'moments'. 02/22/02
The nice people at York Photo answered my customer service email pretty quickly at least and told me my photos had been dispatched on the 12th. So now we must wait for the nice people at the US Postal Service to get off their fat asses and deliver them to me. 02/21/02
Am I the only person who'd never actually heard of Aaliyah until she died? 02/20/02
Still no sign of my photos from York. And I paid a whopping great 30¢ more for so-called "express" service. Damn them. 16 days so far when they promised 7-10. 02/13/02
Well, my first proper foray into portrait photography was fairly successful. I was pretty happy with the way a lot of the pictures came out - using the three different cameras meant I was able to achieve a few different effects, from red neon to washed-out 'Fight Club' flourescent green. The photos can be seen here. Thanks especially to Priscilla for being such a fantastic subject... I feel I really didn't have to do much - without her this would've been nothing. 02/12/02
A very exciting day for me today - my first assignment! I went out with Lomo, Yashica, and Oly XA4 in hand to shoot my roommate Priscilla around San Carlos. We're trying for some interesting arty-looking pictures for her new album and for her web site. It was fun! First time I've had a real live subject like that, but I enjoyed myself, and we're just hoping that at least there's one or two good ones in there. Will I be able to make the cut as a portrait photographer? 02/10/02
Here are some of the better photos I took on yesterday's crawl. They'll eventually get amalgamated with the rest of the pictures on this site, but for the moment, they have their own special page :) But before I forget, there are also SF Lomo Crawl photos to check out by Alisa, Kurt, Mark, and Tristan. 02/09/02
Today was the San Francisco Lomo Crawl! It was a glorious crisp and clear afternoon in the city, and there was a good turn out. We crawled through the streets of North Beach, the financial district, and Chinatown shooting as we went. The sun was just setting when we started out. After we'd eaten, we went back out into the darkness... always a favorite time for Lomo enthusiasts. I managed to get through one and a half Lomo films (Lucky 100) and one Olympus XA4 film (Fuji 400). As I'm impatient and don't quite yet know how the stuff from York Photo is going to turn out, I may take these to get developed tomorrow. I may splash out $20+ in one go. What the hell, I don't have to eat next week :) 02/08/02
Hooray! lomo.org appears to be back... and about time too. When it returned, there was much rejoicing and singing and dancing throughout the land.
I was thoroughly shocked, sickened, and disgusted by this. OK, I lie. In fact I practically pissed myself with laughter. You'll need Shockwave to view it, and not be of a nervous or sensitive disposition. Update 02/09/03 - Too bad this one is down now
Today I also put all my links on one page. What the fuck was I thinking spreading them over three separate pages? What am I, a phone directory? Oy vey... 02/07/02
SF Bay Area Lomo Crawl in two days :) how exciting :) 02/04/02 So I took the plunge and decided to try York Photo for processing a recent film from my Lomo. For a mere $1.95 and $1.20 shipping it seems like a complete bargain, perhaps not as convenient as the one hour places, but still, I thought I'd see how they turn out. I'm hoping the quality will be at least comparable to my local labs... we shall see...
