07/31/02 It's nice to finally update my Canon photos page! I've added four photos from the fourth San Francisco Lomo Crawl a couple of weeks back. There will be a lot more to come! 07/29/02 In the end, I didn't keep the Konica C35 Automatic rangefinder I bought off eBay. Unfortunately, the counter didn't operate correctly, so I sent it back to the seller, and really, I don't think I would've used it much had I kept hold of it. Still, it took some nice photos, a few of which I scanned in today.
In the self-portrait I believe I look really miserable, moody, and isolated. And perhaps I was that day. 07/27/02 So I've been shooting a lot lately, which is probably a good thing. Another three-and-a-half rolls in Lomo and Canon for Priscilla's CD Release Party show at Hotel Utah tonight. It was a great show too! 07/20/02 My feet are killing me. Today was the latest San Francisco Lomo Crawl. We went around Fisherman's Wharf to capture tourists, but frankly we were all feeling a little uninspired. Eventually though, the sun went down and we found ourselves back in North Beach, Chinatown, and the Financial District... spirits lifted a little and I think we had a little more success. I got through two rolls of B&W using my too-often neglected Canonet QL17 - it's rare I use this camera as a street-shooter, and I'm really not sure how the results will turn out. I also got through a roll-and-a-half of trusty Lucky in the Lomo - but admittedly that's way less than I usually shoot. I'll probably send the rolls to York rather than get them processed quickly and expensively - after all, there were a lot of 'experimental' shots this time round. 07/19/02 So I got an email from somebody in the Netherlands (thanks Rob!) who tells me that the translation of that Dutch paragraph I highlighted below is actually about how 'lomography' is a capitalist conspiracy, and that the photos the camera produces are "too sharp for the modern lomographer". I haven't got a fucking clue what that's about... but it seems most people who use their Lomos have a lot of fun, and that's the important thing, right? Perhaps some folks are once again taking the whole Lomo thing way too seriously... Came across this great site: One Hundred Albums You Should Remove from Your Collection Immediately, and I was amused to note how many of these I actually own. The article is worth reading, and very well written - it had me laughing out loud - and providing you don't take such things too seriously, you may chuckle too. 07/12/02 The work of Ami Vitale is truly amazing. This is some of the best photojournalistic and documentary work I've seen in a long time. 07/11/02 "Like you comments. See the pictures taken by an English man with Lucky film." I get linked to from the strangest places sometimes. 07/10/02 The next San Francisco Lomo Crawl is Saturday July 21st, meeting at 5pm at Justin Herman Plaza (map) in the city. We're going to go around shooting tourists. We may even use our cameras. There's more info on Kurt's page. 07/09/02 They say it was so hot downtown this afternoon, grown men on the street corner were going up to cops, begging the cops to shoot. 07/08/02 Anyone out there understand Dutch and can tell me what this means? "Alfred, ontmaskert lomografie als kapitalistisch complot. Zonder zelf ook zo iconoclastisch te willen zijn, moet ik toch constateren dat de foto's die de LOMO LC-A produceert eigenlijk te scherp zijn voor de moderne lomograaf." I hope it's complimentary... see, my Lomo photos were linked to in this paragraph, so it has kind of intrigued me for a couple of days.
07/04/02 The IRC Quotes Database makes for some very entertaining reading! Some of my favorites include:
<Zybl0re> get up
<ohm> damn
<Beeth> Girls are like internet domain names, the ones I like are already taken.
<django23> I have a stupid question: what does "sendmail" do? <psychicbug> ok, take the bible in a .txt document and open it in notepad. shift every first letter to the right 1, and save it as an .avi. turns out, its a cumshot vid
07/02/02 Well, the time has come... I'm selling my Pen EE-2. I like this little camera, it's very cute, and it has a nice, sharp, fixed-focus lens, but frankly I just don't find any use for it, and I know someone who really wants one. It's good to know that there'll be someone else out there who can use it and enjoy it more than I will. Which reminds me. I still have a Nickelodeon PhotoBlaster sitting in my closet unopened... 07/01/02 Do I have to start every new month with the "Wow, it's _________ already" proclamation? I think so.
