It's official. Fountains of Wayne fucking rule.

I've decided I have to get away from work and everything else for a while, so next week I'm going to spend a couple of days down in Santa Barbara, then up north to visit Humboldt County again, especially because it contains my favorite ever drive. It should be quite an adventure, and I'm especially looking forward to having some quality time all to myself.

I give up. Work in the United States is too weird for me. Today someone posted to our corporate 'For Sale' list requesting "a black, four-pronged, thin, square Lego block". Take my life, please.

OK, so i wrote on 02/12/02 that I was determined to go through 2003 without having to replace a single car mirror. Chance would be a fine thing. Yesterday evening, some old git in a Mercury Sable wagon drove past my car, hit my mirror and curbed tire, then turned around and drove back down the hill all sheepishly. I saw the fucker do it, and he didn't even stop! I'm so pissed, I had to report it to the cops, as they said it happens to be a misdemeanour now. Can't wait til I see the old guy driving around town and I can finally nab his license plate. I'm waiting for you... San Carlos is a small place and there ain't nowhere to hide...

After over two-and-a-half years of avoiding it, I finally got caught speeding a couple of months back, and today faced my very first experience of that cornerstone of American society - Traffic School. Now this may be sacrilege, or perhaps I was in a good mood, but it really wasn't that bad. We got out one-and-a-half hours early, he let us watch videos during lunch to speed things up, and the guy was damn funny, without it being one of those cheesy "Comedy Schools". A surprise? Yes. But I doubt I'll get so lucky in the future...

I wish I had a clue what this is all about, but it's marvelous anyway.

I can't get enough of the Dub Selector! Make sure you try all its different flavors.

I was scared shitless last night by the movie 28 Days Later. I've got to say it impressed me greatly with its incredible cinematography and its ability to be both downright scary but also rather chilling. Its one of those movies that sticks with you, and I don't think I've seen something quite that creepy for a long time.

In the continuing saga of why I miss the UK... Hulk Doll's Monster Willy, from where else but The Sun.

Whereas my Lomo LC-A seems better for those more 'urban' moments, my little Olympus XA4 has definitely become my 'nature' camera of choice. Its wide-angle lens and crystal-clear images make it perfect for capturing the more natural places in the Bay Area. It's also a heck of a lot more convenient to use and carry than the big hefty Yashica and Canon. Here are some recent shots...

Yes, it truly is a real live zebra!

Because, frankly, half a squirrel is better than a whole one.

Lizard on a rock at Windy Hill Open Space Preserve.

Mmm...Black Angus?

The beaches of Pescadero are truly beautiful places.

A mossy green tree trunk in Las Trampas Regional Wilderness in the East Bay.

"Giant Blob Baffles Marine Scientists". Gotta love the BBC. A blob on my blog... I'm so proud.

Nice little quiz here that takes a philosophical approach to the question of God's existence. The logic, unfortunately, is not flawless (that's what happens when you're a damn Philosophy degree holder), but it's a fun diversion for a few moments nonethless.

So I got back a handful of Lomo photos from my various excursions around the lovely Bay Area. There's some Olympus XA4 ones to follow tomorrow I hope...

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, live at the Fillmore in San Francisco.

Dominique's first Lomo effort!

Because you can never have enough pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge.

More super tunnel vignetting action.

Could this really be a green dog?
