06/25/03 Like many people out there, my Yahoo! mail account has been bombarded with emails complete with obvious virus attachments. I think it's called Sobig.E this time round. What's strange about it this time is the sheer number of them. They haven't stopped sending them for days, and somehow they even managed to infiltrate our company's internal email system too. 06/24/03 Many of my Lomo films are coming back with blank negatives - I'm lucky to be getting 12 out of 24 exposures these days. I changed my batteries so I'm really hoping that will work, if not, it looks like a new Lomo may be on the cards, and that'd be my third in three years. 06/23/03 This past week has been excellent in terms of live music shows at The Filmore in San Francisco. On Thursday, I got to see Yo La Tengo who played a more uptempo set than I'd expected, but were still totally excellent entertainment. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead who completely and utterly rocked, and are the kind of chaotic hardcore band who give you faith that there is a future for rock'n'roll after all. 06/15/03 I've been doing a huge amount of hiking lately - it's one of the best things about living in the Bay Area I believe. Time and time again I'm discovering the most incredible places to walk and enjoy that feature anything from fantastic ocean views, to dense redwood forests. It's really one of the greatest things I've grown to thoroughly appreciate since I've been here in California. 06/13/03 So yet another movie I missed in the cinema and just caught on DVD is Spike Lee's amazing 25th Hour. It could be Lee's most mature 'joint' yet, and it's interesting to note that it was not he who wrote the script, but David Benioff, who based it on his novel, so it's wrong to accuse Spike Lee of pushing his political or social agenda. Instead, he directs an incredibly deep and poignant story that portrays life in New York, post 9/11, in a very gritty, but very realistic way... it serves as the backdrop, its influence can be felt, but it's not necessarily shoved down the viewers' throats. At the same time, all of the cast give excellent performances including Edward Norton, Philip Seymour-Hoffman, and Brian Cox. It's really one of the most powerful films I've witnessed in a long time. 06/10/03 I watched About Schmidt on DVD last night. What a fantastic movie. As well as being very funny in parts (in a rather macabre way), it's also poignant and touching in places. It contains a depth of character rarely seen in most movies, and Jack Nicholson's entire performance is nothing short of stellar as a man trying to find meaning in his somewhat meaningless life. 06/06/03 Ah, behold, the face of pure evil. I'm thinking of calling my band this. Chance's dogs are all spikey! Another cute puppy in The Mission. Beautiful colors for so menial a scene. Where I go when I'm not working. John, you're a devil! A night out at the Voodoo Lounge. 06/03/03 After feeling pretty bleak all day, I'm glad I came across this link, because it had me laughing out loud. 06/02/03 So, kudos to my web hosting company. After three emails they actually acknowledged that banner ads and pop-ups appearing on my photo pages was actually their problem, and got it fixed pretty quick. A friend and I decided to finally check out The Matrix Reloaded seeing as we felt like the only people on the planet who hadn't actually seen it. Much like every blogger and home critic out there, I'm going to be 100% original and say that, yes, it pretty much sucked, with none of the surprise elements that made the first one so cool. Still, that big chase along the highway is worth the entrance fee alone, especially when you see the sign for Whipple Avenue and Marsh Road above the freeway, as that's merely 10 minutes from my apartment.
