Hahahahaha! France 0 -1 Senegal! Hahahahaha! Okay, I'm not obsessive about sports, but I must admit it's annoying the matches for the 2002 World Cup in Japan & Korea are being broadcast at such inconvenient times for us folks in the U.S. But, in the meantime, France 0 -1 Senegal! Hahahahaha!

Definitely one of the more inventive pieces of spam I've received lately. Spelling and grammar mistakes are included for posterity:

I think you answered my ad if it was not you I am sorry. If it was I could not answer you because my computer died and I could not get a new one until I get a new job or something. I hope you are still interested, as I realize lots of days past.

Gosh, I really don't know where to start.... Mabey you can tell me little more about yourself, and most of all, are you still looking?

If you are interested in more about me, I have a profile at a free site... I didnt want to use a pay site because that did not seem like a good thing.. To many of those around. You can check my profile at

    http://www.freematchads.com/

    I am NOT a Porn Chick ... :)
I just chose it because you don't have to pay, And they allow any pictures I want.
Oh yea, My username is darla1972.

Dont really know what else to say for now
Let me know if you are interested, And I hope you dont run when you see my picture :)

    Bye..... Darla

Of course, I immediately wrote back and told her "I'm all yours baby, come get me". Sadly my email got bounced back.

Haven't the people of Africa suffered enough? What with drought, war, famine, AIDS, and racism they now have to be inflicted with a 10-day visit from that self-righteous prick, Bono? Those poor, poor people.

You already know my thoughts about Star Wars, but this ten minute video from NBC's Conan O'Brien Show contains some truly hilarious gems attacking the nerd culture surrounding the movie.

I'm a happy bunny today, well, perhaps merely a happier bunny than I was the past few days after contracting some icky stomach bug that made me feel weakened. Today was the first time I really felt I ate properly. And by properly I mean I began to eat the normal crap I eat rather than feeling like I'm going to puke as soon as I've ingested anything. But this is all besides the point. I'm a happy bunny because Chungking Express is out as a Region 1 DVD at last and I'm hoping my copy should arrive soon.

In other news, a new musical tip for the top comes in the shape of the Cato Salsa Experience (thanks Allan). Once again, those Scandinavians demonstrate their knack for producing shit hot rock'n'roll. It's garagey, it's retro, it's full of swirly psychadelic keyboards, and it's horrendously generic, but it kicks ass in the same way The Hives do.

Here's a couple of links I've just stolen off Kurt's page, which add to the debate about the whole 'art' (if it can be called that) of using a Lomo LC-A, whether the term "lomography" is a worthy one, and if, perhaps, the cameras are actually any good anyway. As a user of an Olympus XA4 and a Lomo, I have to say that both cameras have their merits... and for all the faults the Lomo LC-A may have, it's still a heck of a lot of fun to use, and that's what counts sometimes. It remains the camera I come back to, despite the others I've acquired since.

It's too bad the hype and the overtly cool and hip thing they've got going at the Lomo.com site just gets worse and worse as time goes on. If it's not "Wearable Lomography" (their term, not mine) it's paper print-out Lomo LC-A replicas.

I managed to get away from the Bay Area for the weekend and spent a few days upstate in Eureka and Humboldt County. The landscape around there is truly beautiful what with the rugged coastlines and abundance of redwood forests. I should have some photos online soon.

What's with the unhealthy obsession that people have with fucking Star Wars? I'm not talking about the queue-for-six-weeks-around-the-block type of fan, more about regular people, including some peers of mine, who still get excited by this crap. George Lucas could film a steaming lump of turd for two hours and still people would turn up in droves to watch. His work is impenetrable to any criticism. It doesn't matter whether his movie is hollow or a masterpiece. George Lucas's ego must be, finally, bigger than the universe. And this is the real issue - here's a man who has the opportunity to say something worthwhile, to say something important - and instead he just churns out the same old crap. Meanwhile, people line up dutifully outside the theaters, knowing (deep down) that this stuff really stinks, but going along with the big old hype machine all the same. The original movie came out 25 fucking years ago, and we're still getting it shoved in our faces to this day. Oi vey.

Yikes. Nothing like an earthquake to scare the bejesus out of me and realize that where I live is a very delicate area. 4.9 (downgraded from 5.2 damnit!) and 50 miles away, it still gave the apartment a good old shake. The San Andreas Fault is literally a couple of miles away from where I live. Always useful to know, that.

Even though the revolution will not be televised (it'll be a live pay-per-view web cast with highlights on FOX the following day), the fight for a fair salary and benefits is still being waged. During lunch today at my workplace, some people from the Justice for Janitors campaign entered the cafeteria and distributed leaflets that explain how the janitorial staff at our campus (who do a fantastic job) get paid jack shit and receive no benefits. They've also allegedly had their jobs threatened if they decide to unionize. Though these people are outsourced to our company through another, it's still despicable if who I work for doesn't support the janitorial staff's quest for fair wages and benefits.

Whether or not the whole thing is true, it was good to see that these hard working people have united to get their voice heard, on what would normally have been a thoroughly bland and ordinary day.

Pop up windows advertising all kinds of crap are pretty damn annoying. But today at work, this one popped up and gave me a good old laugh.

Oh my god. This is totally the funniest fucking thing I've read in a long, long time.

Gotta love that British sense of humor. Check out this sign from yesterday's May Day demos in the UK.

I have now been living in the United States for 17 months. Time passes by crazily fast sometimes. So what have I learned in the time since I arrived?

(01) Driving on the right isn't so stupid when everyone else does it.
(02) The news on network TV really, really sucks.
(03) Too many people tuck in their shirts and wear khakis where I work.
(04) DVDs really are pretty cool.
(05) Half.com rocks.
(06) People think Jamie Oliver is cool here.
(07) They lied about the weather.
(08) Folks really do heat tea in a microwave sometimes.
(09) Taxes.
(10) Giraffes have 21" tongues.
